Meet Annie Oakley – The Brave, Loving Survivor Hello everyone! I'm Annie Oakley. Thank you for taking the time to meet me.Name: Annie OakleyBreed: German Shepherd mixAge: 5 1/2 yrsGender: FemaleWgt/Hgt: 55 lbs / 25 kgs - 56 cm / 22 inchesHighlights: Playful, tripaw (three-legged), joyful, very affectionate, independent, low exercise needsI'm a beautiful shepherd mix, and (now) a very happy girl. Like my legendary namesake, I am full of resilance, grit, and integrity. Born in the Middle East where street dogs are too often treated as vermin, I had the odds stacked against me for survival. Abandoned and pregnant at only 8 months old, I was found alone—injured, scared, and clinging to life. I had likely been hit by a car, which cost me a leg due to infection, and tragically, none of my puppies survived.I am a very loving and affectionate girl who has a real love of life. I adore people – they’re my whole world. I have the cutest habit of splaying my front legs wide when I want you to play with me. And if you dare to stop petting me before I’m ready, I’ll gently “trap” your hand with my front legs, making it impossible for you to leave without a few more scratches.I have lived with other dogs of all sizes, but it takes me a little time to trust them. I’m a brave girl, but my past has made me a bit cautious. Because of this, I would probably do best as an only dog, where I can soak up all the love for myself. I can climb stairs with ease and enjoy normal-length walks, though long hikes aren’t my thing. I’m content to just be by your side, watching the world go by. Too much activity can be hard on my body, so a home with a fenced yard, protected sun-lit porch, or regular outings to bird watch would suit me just fine! I crave human affection, and can reciprocate ten-fold!I'm a joyful soul, a survior, a heroine. I am not at all hyper or high energy; I once had to fight for survival, but having been shown love and compassion, I am now very calm and relaxed. Layin on my bed chewing on a marrow bone or a chew stick is one of my favourite pasttimes! There is no way you could be unhappy with me around. My adoption fee is $600 plus applicable taxes*Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordatella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.
