Barkley is a 1 year old neutered male who is up-to-date on vaccinations. Barkley’s mother is a black wired haired Dachshund (pictured). We don’t know anything about his father, but suspected to be some form of Pit Bull Terrier mix. He is full grown at 37 pounds.
Barkley was abandoned along with his mother and 7 younger siblings. He is very shy around people and new scenery. He runs and hides if he thinks there is trouble. He had never been walked or groomed but now loves both. Barkley is the sweetest dog ever. He is calm and gentle. He let 7 rowdy puppies jump all over him. He is house trained, but does not bark to go outside. In fact, he barely barks at all and it has taken awhile for him to learn it is okay to eat, as his mother fought him for food. Barkley needs to be independent away from his mother so that he can be a dog. We don’t know how he is with cats. He goes to dog daycare for socialization.
If you are interested in adopting Barkley, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet’s age.
**Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. **
