LOCATION: Newburgh, IN DOB: 10/17/2023Meet Freya Rose, a stunning chocolate merle Great Dane-Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with a heart as big as her personality. Freya is a deeply loyal companion—a true velcro dog who wants nothing more than to be by your side. She’s affectionate, intuitive, and completely devoted, but her need for closeness can be a bit overwhelming in the wrong environment, which is why we’re seeking a home that can offer her the consistent companionship she craves.Freya is both crate trained and house trained, and she warms up quickly to new people, especially if treats are involved—she’s very food motivated and already knows sit, down, shake (with both paws), and “place” for her bed. Her recall is impressive, and she enjoys a bit of early morning freedom to roam the yard, always returning when called. She’s got a nose for adventure and a clear hound instinct, constantly sniffing out the trails of critters that have passed through. Because of this, and her likely prey drive, she’ll need a home where she is the only dog, without cats or small animals. She’s clever—too clever sometimes. If left to her own devices, Freya has a knack for getting into the dog food container or the trash. She’s also quite vocal and doesn’t hesitate to let you know what she’s thinking. Yet for all her mischief, she’s incredibly loving. She enjoys her toys with daily enthusiasm, takes each one out to play, and even plays fetch with a tennis ball now and then. There are some signs in her behavior that hint at a rough past. Sudden, unfamiliar tools or objects—like a drill or massage gun—can make her nervous, and we suspect she may have been frightened or even harmed before finding her way to us. Despite this, she seeks comfort in closeness, especially when she can curl up by the fireplace or sit next to you, gently insisting on some ear scratches.Walks are part of her routine, though leash manners are still a work in progress—she can be a bit headstrong. With patience and continued structure, we believe she’ll thrive in a quiet, dog-free home with someone who can give her the attention and stability she needs. We’re hoping to find the right match for Freya Rose by mid-April, as we’ll be traveling and aren’t confident a boarding facility will be the right fit for her. She’s a special dog with a lot of love to give, and we’re happy to answer any questions for those seriously interested in welcoming her into their lives.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .For more information, please email us at rescueme@srgdrr.org.
