Looking for a spirited companion with personality plus? Mini black beauty Gerta might be your perfect match!




Gerta is a bright, super interactive 4-year-old who weighs in at a petite 17 pounds. She came to Little Paws as an owner surrender and is now ready to find her forever family who can appreciate her endless entertainment value and zest for life.



Environment




Gerta is a high-energy girl who needs walks and play every day. She's fully potty trained and loves walks while being great on a leash, making those daily adventures a pleasure. With her level of energy, Gerta will require a fenced yard. She's also adaptable to apartment living since she's not too noisy, making her suitable for homes with shared walls but will need to be walked frequently to get her wiggles out.




She's uncomplaining about her crate when necessary and is very content when left to her own devices, making her a good companion for people with regular work schedules.



Pets & People




Gerta is initially shy with new people but warms up nicely with proper introductions. She does well with older children on a case-by-case basis, but homes with crawlers and toddlers aren't recommended. With other dogs, she gets along wonderfully with male dogs and larger female dogs, though smaller female dogs are not a good match for her.




Around food, Gerta can be a bit snatchy, so careful treat-giving is advised. Her most endearing quirk? She's incredibly demanding for cuddles in the absolute cutest way possible!



Health




Gerta is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm and will be available for adoption after her treatment protocol ends in early June.




For car rides, she does fine on shorter 15-20 minute journeys, but requires anti-nausea medication for longer trips. For this reason, she will need to be adopted within a two hour drive radius of Forest, VA.
