Kagney Marie is the sweetest land hippo in town! She loves people of all ages and has been very patient with kids. Since she’s still working on keeping all four paws on the ground when excited, she would do best in a home with older children. Kagney is excellent with cats—she’s mostly curious but respectful—and very polite with people she meets on walks. She doesn’t pull and happily leaves people alone if they’re not interested. She’s so calm she barely notices the mail carrier!
On walks wherein we may encounter another dog, she’s mostly well-mannered but can be reactive to other dogs, especially when they surprise her. She’s making great progress with her "leave it" command, and with continued guidance, she’ll keep improving. We’ve heard she has done well with other dogs in a home setting after slow, proper introductions.
Kagney is 100% potty trained and knows several commands, with "shake" being her favorite (she’ll offer her paw even when you don’t ask!). She’s eager to please and naturally looks to her humans for guidance. She loves playing tug-of-war, cuddling with her favorite stuffed animal at night, and chasing after a ball—though she’s still learning the “bring it back” part of fetch.
Kagney thrives when she’s close to her people. She does great in her kennel overnight and when her foster parents are out. She can get vocal if asked to stay in her kennel or behind a gate while her people are home—she just loves being part of the action! Kagney would be happiest with a family who can offer her lots of companionship and patience as she continues to build confidence.

If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
