Foster Home Feedback
5/8/25 Foster Home Feedback :We've had Mayor McCheese, we call him Mac, since November. He's a spunky dude with a TON of energy. Tug is his absolute favorite thing to do. He knows his basic commands and does them almost immediately when prompted. Sit, lay down, stay, and shake to name a few. Mayor McCheese picks up on things fast so he's pretty quick to learn. He is very food motivated so that helps. He does good in his kennel but gets to free roam the house the majority of the time with little to no issues. We've only had a couple accidents because he wasn't feeling well. He is a counter surfer so watch out for that as he had to have a cooking utensil removed from his stomach. He's gotten better since. Mayor McCheese does well on walks and bike rides. Our yard is fenced so he gets to run the fence with the neighbors doodle.
Mayor McCheese does alright with most of the dogs he's been introduced to. Slow introductions are best as he gets overstimulated. He does play well but doesn't seem to know when to quit. He backs off when other dogs correct him but he does have a tendency to go right back to it and can be irritable to the other dogs so monitored play and breaks are required.
Mayor McCheese does have a big fear of strangers and it's been a main focus and concern when working with him and on outings around other people. Very very slow introductions are a must. He seems to do better with women and children and isn't as fond of men. He loves the neighbor kids and has learned that some of our friends and the people in my neighborhood aren't scary and goes into a couple of the garages for treats. He's an absolute ham when he eventually warms up to you, but does take some time.
Mayor McCheese is a good boy who needs an active family that's willing to give him plenty of exercise and continue to work with him on his confidence and fears.
10/28/2024 Foster Feedback: Mayor McCheese is such a good and sweet boy! He has been with me for a couple weeks now and I have learned so much about him! He is a lover dog and just wants to be next to his humans - he will be your shadow! Even more, he aims to please and luckily, he is a fast learner. One day in our foster home and he learned to sit by the patio door when he is ready to go outside for a bathroom break and has picked up on queues from our resident dog. We are continuing to work on his manners as he is always curious to see if anything has been left behind for him on the countertops.
He kennels GREAT while we are gone for the day, which ranges from 5-8 hours. He does require moderate stimulation and exercise or can get wound up with zoomies by the end of the night. He walks great and can be easily redirected when he sees other dogs walking with small training treats and tongue clicks/noises.
He does best with dogs smaller (in size) than him and would do great with another dog to play and wrestle with. Controlled introduction between Mayor and other dogs has been the best experience thus far, as he gets overstimulated and worked up when he meets other hyper dogs. We do not have a fenced yard at our foster home, but I do think it would be in Mayor's best interest to have a fenced yard to free roam. He is mostly self-entertained with lots of stuffy toys, feeder puzzles, filled bones/Kongs/etc.
Mayor is going to make an amazing and loving addition to a family and has SO much room to grow into specific training skills and is already showing flexibility in various work schedules. Take a chance on this handsome fellow - you will be so happy you did!
