RENA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Rena Best Guess for Breed: Labrador and shepherd mix
Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of March 2025 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 37 lbs. as of March 2025
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!
Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here.
Special Adoption Considerations: Rena is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Rena is Looking For: This young girl has emerged from puppyhood as a beautiful young lady looking for her forever home! She still has all that puppy love for play and cuddles. She's eager to explore her new world by the side of her new family. Romps in the park, sniffy walks, and all the adventure you can dream up - yes, please! She’d love to make pup and people pals along the way!
Most of all, she wants to know that she is safe and loved. In exchange, she promises adoring gazes, tail wags, and loyal companionship for all her days. Will you give Rena the life she dreams about and become her new best buddy?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time in foster care.
