Meet Toby! He's a 2 year-old, 15 lb. rat terrier that loves to burrow in blankets and hang out with his humans. Toby's personality blossoms more every week that he is in his foster home, this includes using his voice more (Singing, talking, barking) and exploring what kind of toys he likes to play with (especially a squeaky, crinkly, giant burrito). He's already consistent with the "sit" command as long as training includes a meaty treat to reinforce his new learnings. Toby does have to watch his weight as he arrived carrying a few extra pounds. Just keep up his regular diet and continue being active with walks to lose the last little bit and help him stay at a healthy size around 13-14 lbs.Toby thinks other dogs are okay, but is a little awkward with them, initially not wanting to be very friendly until he accepts them. He gets along fine with the other terrier in his foster home, though he clearly prefers to hang out with and get attention from the people. Other dogs outside are interesting, he sometimes barks at the big ones, so he would probably be more comfortable interacting mostly with dogs around his size. On walks, Toby is showing some moderate prey drive with an interest in birds, or other creatures that move quickly. He does well walking on a leash without pulling and enjoys being outside unless it is raining. When it comes to house manners, Toby is trustworthy to stay home uncrated and spends most of his time lounging/napping. He is house-trained, doing best on a schedule. So far Toby has slept in bed with his humans at night cuddled up next to them where he feels safe. He has spent some time crated, but he takes a while to settle down. Are you looking for a young rat terrier with a mature personality to be your family's best friend?
